Date range:
Second half 13th c.
Author(s):
Lambert of Saint-Omer (wrote the Liber Floridus c. 1121)
Description:
VLF 31 is a parchment codex from the second half of the 13th c., its leaves measuring 320 x 225 mm. It is constructed of 26 quires of mostly 4 or 6 bifolia, totalling 284 leaves (568 pages). Catchwords appear mostly in a 15th-c. hand. The same hand may have added incomplete foliation in Arabic numerals. Alexandre Pétau added a new foliation from start to finish. Written space and the number of lines vary. The text is written by at least eight different scribes in Littera gothica textualis/Littera textualis/Littera cursiva. Major or minor initials in red or blue start off new chapters. They are decorated with curly figures and lines. Inscriptions and booknumbers and -titles (on top of the pages) are in red. There are several images in different colours. The codex has a 19th-c. cardboard cover with dark leather protection. Alexandre Pétau added an index on f. Iv.
