Unsolicited dedication to Staunton, stating `I do not appear before you as a needy cringing Scribbler craving your partiality and protection but `as to a judge in the literary contest I have started, by drawing a parallel ... Montucci criticized Morrison for omitting the common abbreviated characters (i.e. those used ordinarily in correspondence, etc.). His own dictionary was intended for beginners in Europe.
